CS 1.6 server.cfg Generator

Server type

Server

The server name shown in the server browser.

Password for remote admin control. Use a long random one and never share it.

Password players need to join. Leave empty for a public server.

A contact (email, Discord or site) shown in server info.

On: LAN only, the server does not appear on the internet.

Lets players join as spectators.

Both teams hear each other on voice chat.

Game rules

Minutes per map before it changes. 0 = no limit.

Rounds per map before it changes. 0 = no limit.

Round wins a team needs to end the map. 0 = no limit.

Round length in minutes (1 to 9).

Seconds players are frozen at round start to buy.

Minutes the buy menu stays open (0.25 = 15 seconds).

Seconds until the planted bomb explodes.

Money each player starts with (800 to 16000).

Players can damage their own teammates.

A player who kills a teammate is killed at the start of the next round.

Kicks idle players and players who kill too many teammates.

Moves players between teams to keep them even.

How many more players one team may have than the other. 0 = no limit.

Hostage kills before a player is kicked. 0 = never.

Players can use the flashlight.

Footstep sounds can be heard.

Who dead players can watch.

Who the chase camera may follow.

The screen goes black when a player dies.

Seconds for chat on the scoreboard before the next map.

Seconds between spray logos for each player.

Movement

World gravity. 800 is standard.

Maximum player speed. 320 is standard.

Control in the air. 10 is standard; surf and bhop servers use 100.

How fast players reach full speed on the ground. 5 is standard.

Ground friction. 4 is standard.

Speed below which players stop quickly. 75 is standard.

Extra friction at ledges. 2 is standard.

Network and rates

Maximum data per second to each player (bytes).

Minimum data per second, so players with low settings still play smoothly.

Maximum updates per second sent to players. 101 is common.

Minimum updates per second sent to players.

Seconds without data before a player is dropped.

Lag compensation, so hits count where the player aimed.

Voice chat

Turns voice chat on.

Voice quality from 1 to 5. Higher uses more bandwidth.

Downloads

Players can download missing maps, sounds and models.

Players can upload their spray logos.

Optional fast download web address (FastDL), e.g. http://example.com/cstrike/. Much faster than downloading from the game server.

Sends players' spray logos to the others.

Sends custom map files to players who are missing them.

Logs and bans

Writes server logs to cstrike/logs. Needed by stats plugins.

Which attacks are written to the log.

Writes chat messages to the log.

Writes bans to the log.

Loads the saved ban lists (Steam ID and IP) when the map starts.

Start command

The player limit, first map and port are set when the server starts, not in server.cfg. Use this line to start it (or put the same values in your host's panel).

    Download the file, or copy the text into a file named server.cfg.

    Upload it to the cstrike folder of your server, replacing the old server.cfg (keep a copy of the old one).

    Restart the server or change the map - server.cfg is read when a map loads. You can also type exec server.cfg in the server console.

    Keep the rcon password secret: anyone who knows it controls the server. AMX Mod X plugins keep their own settings in addons/amxmodx/configs.
